Dan Smyth wins MP Christmas Card competition

Dan Smyth, from St Faith's C of E Primary School, has won Steve Brine's sixth annual Christmas Card competition.

The 6 year old follows in the footsteps of previous winners Daisy Conway, Eleanor Ring, Liam Skeat, Ellis Gauntlett Boak and Gabrielle Panayides and won first place with a painting of reindeers in the winter sky. Dan now wins a family ticket for this year's Cinderella pantomime courtesy of Theatre Royal Winchester.

This year saw over 370 entries from 11 schools whittled down to a shortlist of finalists, and the entries were this year judged by Steve Brine and Prof Joy Carter, Vice Chancellor of the University of Winchester.

As well as the main prize, there were also a range of year group winners and commendations. Luke Rosewell from Itchen Abbas Primary School won the Reception year prize, and Toby Chambers from Prince's Mead won Year One. Olivia Vaughan from Sparsholt C of E Primary School won Year Three, while Ruby Richardson from Itchen Abbas Primary School won Year Four. Natasha Brackley from Sherborne House School won the Year Five category, and Mia Greenway from Kings Worthy Primary School won Year Six.

There were also special commendations for Audrey Clayton of Twyford St. Mary's Primary School, Ava Child from Prince's Mead School, as well as Avantika Umranikar and Georgia Skiada from Sherborne House.

The Year Group winners all receive family tickets to Marwell Wildlife, and all the paintings are now on display in the Children's Library at the Winchester Discovery Centre until Christmas.

Steve Brine said: "This was another record year for entries to the competition and I am hugely grateful to all teachers for making time in their school day to take part. Many thanks also to everyone who worked to make this happen, including our sponsors Theatre Royal Winchester, Marwell Wildlife and Winchester Discovery Centre who yet again have been so kind and accommodating with their time and resources.

"My congratulations go to Dan and all the Year Group and Commendation winners, alongside my thanks to Professor Joy Carter who was a brilliant guest judge."
