Local MP Steve Brine spent this morning in Kings Worthy as local residents managed a large delivery of sandbags to the village.
Late last night, the army dropped off a quantity of 1000 sandbags on Lovedon Lane, just outside the King Charles pub which remains fully open for business.
The Winchester & Kings Worthy MP met with the landlady, Sharon, and Cllr Sarah White from the parish council, as they set about organising a sensible distribution across the village.
Steve said: "In anyone's book, this is a huge task, but it is mission accomplished as we have been able to utilise the Royal Signals who came all the way up from Bulford to spread this welcome new supply of sandbags across the village.
"There remain a quantity on Lovedon Lane, just up from the King Charles, and we have moved an amount opposite the pub, to the pavement next to Vale Way off Springvale Road. There are now a large number at Tesco further up Springvale Road."
Steve and the team were also helped out by Paul Hurst, a thatcher from Gosport who is working in the village and mucked in to help with some heavy lifting and use of his van.
Steve added: "Once again, a real triumph for the human spirit, and I was delighted that we achieved so much this morning."
A senior Group Manager from Hampshire Fire & Rescue also joined Steve and the team on site first thing this morning to assess the situation.
Steve adds; "I wanted just be 100% sure there was no pumping or even water extraction job their guys could do for us but sadly that is not possible given the geography of area and the sheer volume of water."
Hampshire Fire & Rescue are sending a community liaison team member to the area to reassure residents and answer any questions they have about hygiene and other practical matters. This will be coordinated through the Parish Council.
