Steve Brine retains seat with increased majority

Winchester & Chandler's Ford residents have re-elected Steve Brine as their constituency MP, with a majority of almost 17,000.

Polls were open between 7am-10pm on Thursday 7th May, and as ever, the turnout from this constituency was among the highest in the UK, coming in at 74.6%

Mr Brine, who put his victory down to his 100% positive local campaign alongside hard work over the past five years, increased his majority from 3,048 when he secured the seat back in 2010 with the third highest swing in the country to 16,914 over the Liberal Democrats.

Speaking at 8am from the count at the River Park Leisure Centre in Winchester he said; "It has been a huge privilege to represent this constituency one but to be allowed to do it again is just awesome. Obviously I am really pleased with this result and humbled by it.  We knew during the campaign residents said I had been a good constituency MP and it's so lovely they felt able to come out and support my re-election.

"Big majority or small majority however, it's the same job and I will continue where I left off, working for all the constituency and serving it to the best of my ability."
