Summer Tour draws to a close

Steve Brine's 2016 Summer Tour moved into its final week today (Monday 19 September) with a day in north Winchester.

The team spent the morning in the Dean Lane area of Teg Down meeting constituents and hearing their feedback on local as well as national issues of the day.  Local campaigner for the St Barnabas area, and former city councillor Paul Twelftree, joined as well.

After a stop for refuelling at Costa Coffee in Stoney Lane, the team was joined by well-known councillor Ian Tait for an afternoon meeting residents in nearby Harestock.

Steve said; "This year's Summer Tour has been great fun and we've covered a lot of ground as always.  I think it's so important to get out on the doorsteps and just chat with my constituents and it's even easier to do that when Parliament in recess, as it is for part of this month during party conference season.

"So many issues people wanted to discuss including brexit, education policy and Theresa May for whom there is clearly a huge sense of support for.  Locally, the proposed closure of Andover Road still comes up time and again especially in Harestock where Paul Twelftree's campaign to keep it open when Kings Barton is built has clearly caught the public's attention."

This penultimate Summer Tour event of 2016 saw Steve's faithful Labrador, Popcorn, return to the team. Popcorn has been poorly in recent weeks after a probable diagnosis of late onset epilepsy but is doing well and enjoyed being back with the lads!
