Local MP Steve Brine dropped in St Bede School in Winchester on Monday 10th February, as staff battled the floods with teams from Hampshire County Council.
The Winchester MP met with Headteacher Louise Fitzpatrick and said how incredibly impressed he was with the dedicated spirit shown by the whole community. It's the second time in the past few days Steve has visited the school which totally flooded back in 2000 and was re-built as a result.
While on-site he met with members of the Hampshire County Council team and learnt more about the safety issues which have caused the school to temporarily close. Steve also spoke to ITV Meridian who were at the school and paid tribute to parents and staff for stoically battling weather that has not been seen for over 200 years.
He said: "What with the extraordinary rainfall we are seeing, I thought it was important that the fantastic work going on in Hyde was put out there. St Bedes is superbly led by Louise and a very strong team of governors and teaching staff, and are also blessed by an extremely strong parent-base.
"I am working around the clock to get help targeted to where it is most needed, including across Kings Worthy, Headbourne Worthy, Littleton and Twyford to name but a handful of other badly affected areas, and while we cannot do anything about what is falling from the sky, we can continue to work together and do everything in our power to help."
