Winchester & Chandler's Ford MP Steve Brine is once again looking for a budding local artist to design his Christmas card and we would be delighted if your school would participate.
The competition, now in its 4th year, has been a great success in the past with several hundred entries received, and we've been really impressed with the quality of work – there certainly are a lot of talented artists in our local primary schools!
The winning painting will be used on the front of Steve's official 2014 Christmas card which will be sent out to community groups, public services, charities and local businesses, including the Prime Minister at No.10 and his cabinet. The winner will have their name, age and school printed on the inside front page of the card.
An exhibition of paintings that make the short-list will take place in the Children's Library at the Winchester Discovery Centre and this year's guest judge is the highly regarded local artist, Daphne Vaughan. Judging will take place on in late Autumn 2014 and the shortlisted paintings will remain on public display at the library until Christmas.
Every child who enters the competition will receive a special certificate - and prizes, supported by local organisations, will be awarded to the winner of each year group. The overall winner will also receive a special prize from Steve at a presentation ceremony at their school and an announcement will be made in the local press.
Theatre Royal Winchester have very kindly donated the first prize of a family ticket to this year's Pantomime 'Sleeping Beauty' and Marwell Wildlife are donating the 6 year group prizes of family tickets to Marwell Zoo.
The closing date for entries is Friday 24 October 2014 and should either be sent to Steve's constituency office or alternatively arrangements can be made for collection from your school.
