Bridge Repair Finally Completed

Bridge Repair Finally Completed

09 July 2010

Commuters across Winchester received a welcome surprise this week as the Andover Rd bridge re-opened three days ahead of schedule.

The bridge had been closed since April, allowing Network Rail to carry out a re-heightening exercise which was part of a nationwide scheme. This closure meant that commuters were diverted into the city centre via alternative routes, such as Worthy Lane and Stockbridge Rd.

Steve said: “I am delighted that the bridge repairs have been completed, especially slightly ahead of schedule, which is a rarity for many such works nowadays. Now I hope that things will start to get back to normal. I am mindful that the bridge near Stoke Charity is still closed though, which is an inconvenience for many local people living around King’s Worthy, South Wonston, Sutton Scotney and the surrounding villages. I have been informed that the bridge is likely to reopen by July 30 so it’s a case of watch this space for now.”
