Steve Brine has backed government plans for helping small charities across the UK access DFID funding.
Back in March, International Aid Minister Priti Patel announced the creation of a Small Charities Challenge Fund (SCCF), and the Fund is open for applications.
She said: "The new Fund will target the very smallest UK-registered Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) with an income of less than £250,000 a year. Organisations will be able to bid for grants of up to £50,000 to support life-changing projects amongst the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people groups in the world's poorest countries."
Steve Brine, who has written to all applicable charities in his Winchester constituency with details, added: "Smaller organisations are a crucial part of the Great British offer on international development. I have seen at first hand, across Winchester & Chandler's Ford, the difference these organisations can make and the passion demonstrated by those who support them.
"They are found in every corner of the UK, often run by volunteers and highly valued and trusted by their local communities. They are able to make some of the most direct connections with the people we're trying to help and those wanting to help them. They are also highly effective at building trust with local communities and tailoring their specialist services around people's actual, day-to-day needs. For these reasons we are very proud to be making more funding available to them over the next few years."
