Steve Brine spoke in Health Questions on Tuesday 12th June, and pressed the Minister on digital breast screening.
Speaking on the floor of the House of Commons, Steve asked about the progress that has been made in the move to fully digital breast screening and if the Minister would make a statement?
In reply, Care Minister Paul Burstow told the House that the Government is now extending the digital screening programme to 47-73 year olds.
Steve then replied: "I thank the Minister for that but wonder if I may press him a little on the practice of 'making digital happen' in my Winchester constituency. Where does the Minister see funding responsibility in the new NHS for investment in new digital equipment?
"Does it fall 100% to the Foundation Trust wanting to be commissioned to provide the service or the CCG commissioning it or is there a third way?"
The Minister responded by saying that there were there were three aspects to the situation. First, that digital equipment should be purchased at the lowest price, and second, that responsibility for pricing lies with the provider.
Finally, he told Steve that the commissioner will make it clear in their specification if the digital equipment is required.
