The 3rd Chandler’s Ford Scout Group received a visit from their Member of Parliament, Steve Brine, to hear about his job and ask a few questions of their own.
The MP joined his fellow guest Michael Grimmett, a Disability inclusion speaker based in Southampton at their Tuesday meeting beside the United Reform Church in Kings Road.
Many of the scouts quizzed Steve on what Parliament and the role of an MP was like, along with raising a number of policy issues including smart motorways and university fees.
Steve Brine had originally been invited down in November and after a number of disruptions due to Covid, he kept his word and dropped in.
The group’s leader, Des Mahon, said; “It was fantastic to finally have Steve visit our group. The Scouts did not hold back with their questions and made sure young people’s voices were heard. Scouts is all about giving the young people independence and confidence so I am really happy that they all took the opportunity. We could not do this without our amazing volunteers so thank you to each and every one of them”
Mr Brine added “It’s always a pleasure to visit a scout group in the constituency and this evening was no different, a lovely reminder to my happy time in the Cubs and the Scouts. The group are a lively bunch who it was a pleasure to chat with.
“I wish them luck on their upcoming trip to Denmark as part of a mini European jamboree and I look forward to hearing how it goes”
