Local resolve as strong as ever against a new town on land at Micheldever Station as speculative proposal receives robust response.
The latest attempt by Zurich Eagle Star to build a major new town in the open countryside around Micheldever Station is receiving unanimous opposition from all your representatives and community groups.
Steve Brine, the Prospective Conservative MP for Winchester, has already stressed his resolve to help fight this proposal. “I have pledged my support for any action that prevents the building of a new town on this important greenfield site. A proposal with ‘eco-town’ in the headline may seem like a way to short-circuit opposition to large-scale development on this site but it doesn’t change the fact this is a relatively remote rural area with very few facilities for the existing population.
Cllr George Beckett, Leader of Winchester City Council, has expressed astonishment at the new proposal, especially as it was specifically rejected by the recent report into the South East Regional Plan. Previous proposals from Zurich Eagle Star have, of course, been firmly rejected by both Winchester City and Hampshire County Councils and have no place in the current Winchester District Local Plan.
