Steve Brine joined a number of MPs on Monday 5th March to find out more about The Big Switch, a new initiative to help people cut their energy bills.
Steve and fellow MPs found out more about how their constituents could benefit from The Big Switch, as the use a completely new way for people to buy energy. Organisers will be using the combined switching power of thousands of consumers, and will negotiate with energy suppliers and seek to secure a market leading deal.
Steve said: "This was a fantastic event, and I pay tribute to Mr Offord and Which? in particular for getting this off the ground. One of the most exciting things for me was having the chance to chat to Which? and I have begun work to organise a special 'Energy Surgery' which I will hold with the experts later this year."
Richard Lloyd, executive director of Which?, said: "It is fantastic that so many people are taking action to get a better deal on their energy bills.
"We know people are really struggling with bills as their household incomes are squeezed.
"The Big Switch is the first time UK consumers will come together in such big numbers to negotiate cheaper energy deals.
"This is also a great opportunity for the energy companies to show real commitment to giving their customers the best possible price for their energy."
Steve added: "I would be delighted to hear from local people who would be interested in taking part, and would encourage them to get in contact with me by email, as well as signing up to The Big Switch itself."
