Steve Brine visited the team at Winchester & District Young Carers on Friday 16th December as he joined people across the country celebrating Local Charities Day.
Young Carers is a local charity that supports children and young people who care for a family member with a long-term illness or disability. The charity provides weekly young carer support clubs where the young people can share their thoughts, feelings, needs and concerns in a safe environment.
In addition to this, they run an activities programme where the young people can have time out from their caring role, meet other young people who are in a similar situation, relax and have fun. The project also works in schools raising awareness and offering staff training as well as supporting the needs of the whole family.
Ben Hogbin, Manager, said: "I was delighted Steve was able to pop along today, and am very grateful he was able to mark Local Charities Day with us."
Steve Brine said: "It was great to be able to mark today at Young Carers. They do valuable work across my constituency, and particularly with it being this close to Christmas I am pleased to be able to highlight their superb work. For many carers, Christmas Day will be like any other so the support WYC give is more important than ever.
"Local Charities Day is a great idea, and I am also pleased the government is seeking to simplify the Gift Aid Small Donations scheme, which is set to deliver an additional £15m per year to charities. I am very grateful to the team for meeting me today, and wish them well for 2017."
