Steve Brine says the Spring Budget is 'strong' and will be welcomed by many constituents - and local businesses - for the support it provides.
Speaking from Westminster within minutes of Chancellor Rishi Sunak's Statement to MP's, the Winchester & Chandler's Ford MP said; “This is a really strong Budget; continues to support my constituents and so many businesses through the crisis but looks to how we can begin to repair to public finances and, above all, build a resilient economy going forward.
“Key to that for us is the fantastic announcement Solent will be one of the first freeports in the country. Our lobbying as local MPs clearly paid off and this can be part of an ambitious and optimistic plan for high quality job creation, with strong green growth at its heart, here in Hampshire.
“The extension of furlough was very important as was the attempt to bring new people into the self-employed income support scheme but I think the restart grants, of up to £18,000, for retail, hospitality, gyms and personal care could be absolute lifelines to keep some above water until lockdown lifts."
