Steve Brine took the initiative after being contacted by local residents in Kings Worthy who were concerned about water levels, after Storms Ciara and Dennis hit Hampshire, bringing heavy rain.
Steve met with residents, Winchester City Council workers and representatives from Hampshire Highways outside the King Charles Pub on Springvale Road on Friday 21st February.
On arrival the local MP, accompanied by son William and puppy Monty, discussed with all parties what had happened in that area in 2014, when it was badly flooded. Residents raised the issue of the drains on Springvale Road were too small to deal with the issue and Steve agreed that Hampshire County Council must take action and look at a long term solution.
Approximately 200 sandbags were then deployed to stop water flooding the pub, as well as to stop any further water from flooding the house behind. Residents welcomed Steve’s intervention with authorities and agreed that this action would not have taken place had he not called for it.
