Steve Brine is supporting CLIC Sargent's plan to extend support for children and young people with cancer across the UK.
The Winchester & Chandler's Ford MP joined more than 20 colleagues and Peers, and around 200 guests, at the House of Commons for CLIC Sargent's Parliamentary reception on Wednesday 15th June. Others attending the event included CLIC Sargent Patrons Alice Beer, Kai Owen, Duncan Pow and Joanna Taylor.
The reception was hosted by CLIC Sargent, the leading cancer charity for children and young people, to ensure that care and support for young cancer patients remains on the political agenda. The event was sponsored by John Baron MP, Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Cancer.
Steve learned about CLIC Sargent's work and spoke to a number of young cancer patients who told him how they found out they had cancer and how it has affected their lives, and their families.
The MP, who also listened as CLIC Sargent Chief Executive, Lorraine Clifton and Chair of Trustees, Daphne Pullen spoke about the charity's ambitions to increase support for young cancer patients over the next five years. He said: "It was good to hear the charity's plans about how they will continue to support children and young people with cancer and their families across the UK. It's vital that as MPs we back the work that CLIC Sargent does to reduce the impact of childhood cancer.
"I have nothing but admiration for all of the young people I met at the reception, and the great work the charity does supporting families and young people like this every day."
Two young cancer survivors made speeches about what it is like to live with cancer, and told how they had been supported by CLIC Sargent, and Lorraine Clifton said: "We're delighted that Steve showed a real interest in CLIC Sargent's work and wants to support us. This was a fantastic opportunity for the children and young people we support to speak directly to MPs and Peers about their experiences."
