Cancer Minister Steve Brine took part in an evidence session on progress being made to deliver Cancer Strategy recommendations by 2020.
The All Party Parliamentary Group session, held on Wednesday 18th October, brought together witnesses from the Department of Health, NHS England, Health Education England and Cancer Research UK. The purpose of the enquiry is to understand how the Cancer Strategy is being implemented at a local level and to ensure that the Government remains on course to deliver commitments and improve outcomes by 2020.
Over 80 organisations and individuals submitted written evidence to the enquiry, and the APPG will publish a report of their key findings and seek to make recommendations to Government and NHS England to shape the implementation and delivery of the Cancer Strategy ahead of the 2020 delivery target.
Questions in the session focussed on workforce, funding, governance and accountability, data and metrics (with a focus on the importance of early diagnosis), the importance of protecting the value and integrity of the Cancer Patient Experience Survey, patient involvement, and overall delivery of the strategy.
Speaking afterwards, Steve Brine said: "I very much enjoyed taking part in the session, which heard evidence from experts from right across the cancer arena.
"I very much look forward to the publication of the enquiry's final report at the Britain Against Cancer conference in early December."
