Steve Brine visited Marwell today (Thursday 6 November 2008) to see developments on the site and hear of plans for the future.
Marwell Zoological Park is owned and run by Marwell Preservation Trust, a registered charity dedicated to the conservation of wildlife and natural habitats both locally and internationally.
Steve met with Chief Executive James Cretney (pictured) and took a tour of the 140 acre site; stopping to check out the brand new visitor restaurant.
500,000 people visit Marwell each year and the charity employs some 250 people during the Summer months (this drops to circa 140 in Winter).
Steve says; “Like most people who grew up in the area in the past 20 years I visited Marwell as a schoolboy and had my ideas about what it does and what it seeks to do. I think Marwell is excellent and it’s important to stress it is not simply a zoo! Their work overseas as an international conservation non-governmental organisation is truly remarkable and makes Marwell truly a place we should be proud of here in Hampshire.”
