Winchester & Chandler's Ford MP Steve Brine hosted 'Great Expectations', a National Autistic Society campaign backed by Jane Asher, in the House of Commons on Monday 27th June.
The Government's education reforms present what campaigners have described as a 'chance of a lifetime' to shape the future of a generation of children with autism, and Great Expectations aims to show Ministers just how they can really get it right.
Steve, who has just been reconfirmed as Vice-Chair of the All-Party Group for Autism, welcomed guests just after 6pm, and the audience heard from a number of speakers, including parents such as Rachael Trueman, as well as MPs Maria Miller and Andy Burnham, before actress Jane Asher made some closing remarks.
Steve said: "This really is something I know affects so many people, and I was delighted to be able to host the event in the House.
"Great Expectations is great, because they have really done their homework, speaking to parents, carers and of course young people with autism themselves, and it was fantastic to be able to showcase the campaign to colleagues, peers and the media this evening."
