A reception in Parliament marks the merger of two vital organisations for local police and their families.
Prospective Winchester MP Steve Brine visited Parliament today (Wednesday 5 November 2008) to celebrate the work of the Police Dependants Trust (PDT).
He joined guests from all over the UK, MP, Peers as well as the Prime Minister and Conservative leader David Cameron to mark the merger of the PDT with the National Police Fund.
The Trust has been working since 1966 to assist the families of police officers killed on duty, and officers who have been incapacitated as a result of injuries in the course of their duty and their dependants. The Trust is one of the largest police charities in the UK and is dedicated to the provision of welfare services to Police Officers and their dependants’ in the respective forces throughout the UK, as well as assisting local benevolent funds with this task.
Steve Brine said; “We have large numbers of serving police officers and their families living here in the Winchester constituency, many in the Colden Common area. This event was in particular held to honour those officers who have made great services to protect, defend and uphold law and order across the country. I was honoured to be asked and humbled to meet some of the officers (and families) who have been helped by the Police Dependants Trust. They are always there when called upon as a result of death or injury in the force and they deserve the support of everyone as much as the officers they support.”
