Steve Brine calls on Royal Mail to come clean on hold up over Winchester plans.
The past few months have seen local people react with a mixture of shock and anger at news Winchester's main Post Office in Middle Brook Street is to close.
Services will be transferred to WH Smith in the High Street as part of a national move by Royal Mail. The move has already taken place in Alton and Southampton is following soon.
However, Winchester - which is earmarked for change under the 'relocation' programme - has still yet to get a date for the consultation process to even start.
Prospective Winchester MP, Steve Brine, has just returned from his party's conference in Blackpool and says we need answers soon from the Post office.
"The town of Blackpool has already lost its PO to WH Smith as you can see from the picture above, we really don't want that to happen here. Winchester demands a full size central post office offering the full range of services as I have said many times.
"However, we know the Post Office have marked Winchester as part of the relocation programme and despite many months now passing since the original announcement was made, we have had silence from them. It's time for some straight talking and for local people to get an explanation as to what exactly is going on."
