Local Conservatives take action over speeding in notorious speed straight.
Steve Brine has welcomed a move from Hampshire County Council to bring a new 30mph speed limit to Church Lane in Colden Common.
The new 30 zone – which will be in place before the end of this year - is part of a Hampshire wide programme from the Conservative led County Council that will run through until 2009.
The Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Winchester said it was an important step to protect residents – and drivers – in Church Lane and the wider area.
“I am really pleased the County Council have finally listened to years of non-partisan campaigning from councillors and local people. “All the evidence points to a reduction in speed being directly linked to a reduction in accidents and injuries on our roads. I hope the new 30 limit will give residents in Church Lane a fresh confidence, especially when they are out with the kids, walking the family dog or just letting the cat out at night.
“However, speed limits are not the only issue in Church Lane. Enforcement is of-course, the other side of this coin and I plan to raise the issue with Winchester’s most senior police officer when we meet shortly. I know the issue of the uneven road surface is also a concern, which I have contacted the County Council about – we will report back.”
