Steve Brine has spoken of his delight after it was announced that cancer networks were to be supported beyond 2012-13.
While changes to the NHS are currently being debated, Steve had previously warned Ministers that they had to act in order to safeguard the future of specialist cancer support.
The Government had previously confirmed support for cancer networks, which commission services and provide palliative, until 2012, but needed to wait for NHS Commissioning Board to confirm the decision beyond that timeframe.
New NHSCB Chief Executive David Nicholson has now confirmed the cancer networks will receive support beyond 2012-13.
Steve said: "As I have previously pointed out, cancer is a set of over 200 different diseases, and while we have 2 million sufferers now, that will rise to 4 million in the next two decades. Treatment is often highly complex, and needs very particular pathways, so I am very happy at this most welcome outcome."
