As part of the celebrations of the 30th anniversary of Childline, the NSPCC has announced that Dame Esther Rantzen is hosting a star-studded candlelight carol concert in the beautiful mediaeval surroundings of Winchester College Chapel.
At the event, on Tuesday 20th December, Dame Esther will talk about her work with Childline and will be joined by Alastair Stewart OBE, as well as Torchwood and Hollyoaks actor Kai Owens, who will be giving Christmas readings.
There will be music from Sansara, a brilliant young chamber choir with local connections, who won First Prize and Audience Prize in the 2015 London International A Capella Choir Competition.
They will be joined by Angus Benton, BBC Young Chorister of the Year 2015, and organist Malcolm Archer, and there will also be a chance for the audience to join in too with some well-known and well-loved carols.
The concert, which starts at 7:30pm, will be followed by a champagne reception in 'School', a few paces from the Chapel where there will be a chance to find out more about the work of the NSPCC.
Steve Brine said: "I was delighted to hear about this special evening, set right here in Winchester, also known of course as 'Christmas City', and I am sure it will be a wonderful event."
Dame Esther Rantzen said: "I am looking forward to hosting this magical event in aid of Childline's 30thanniversary. It's an honour to be a part of the first Christmas concert organised by the Winchester committee. It will be a great evening that will raise much needed funds to help Childline continue for another 30 years."
