Local MP Steve Brine has expressed his delight that the B.A.B.I.E.S (Babies and Breastfeeding Information Encouragement and Support) service is set to continue for at least another year after some very successful fundraising.
B.A.B.I.E.S provides free breastfeeding support and help to all new mothers in the Winchester and District area. Held in a modern and comfortable environment, support is provided from trained NCT breastfeeding counsellors.
B.A.B.I.E.S. meets every Wednesday morning between 9.30am and 12.00pm at the Lanterns Children's Centre on Bereweeke Road. It is not necessary to make an appointment, and if mothers need to bring older children they are more than welcome.
As well as the recent Buggy Push, which Steve both started and took part in, and Winchester Summer Fete, further donations from Winchester Round Table have enabled the team, supported by the National Childbirth Trust, to continue well beyond October, when funds looked set to run out.
Steve said: "I am truly delighted that this excellent local organisation is set to continue for at least another year. I know how many people really value the service that is provided, and B.A.B.I.E.S would have been sorely missed if it had to close.
"Personally, I will continue to offer B.A.B.I.E.S my full support, and extend my thanks to those who worked so hard and gave so generously."
