South Wonston pupils Ben and Bethan Bewick are looking forward to a tour of the Houses of Parliament after they won the annual Winchester Round Table Guy competition.
The brother and sister team met up with Winchester MP Steve Brine on the day of the 57th Bonfire and Fireworks display at the Rec, which this year saw over 20,000 people in attendance.
This event is put on by the 25 members of Winchester Round Table, who provide their time voluntarily to raise funds to support those causes in Winchester who may otherwise not get funding from traditional sources. This year, 1000 tickets were given free to deserving individuals, and the event raised an estimated £40,000.
Conor Gately, Chairman of Winchester Round Table, said: "It was the best fireworks we have seen raising £40,000 for local causes. Everyone involved is euphoric with the way it went because we do it for the community to support local charities and good causes, many of which are facing difficult financial decisions.
"We are extremely thankful to our supporters and our sponsors as without them we would not be able to run the event."
Steve Brine added: "It was great to meet Ben, Bethan and their family, as well as the organisers who worked so tirelessly to out on a superb event. I look forward to hosting Ben and Bethan in Parliament so I can show them around, and more importantly, they can see what Guy Fawkes was really trying to do!"
