Steve Brine attended a packed celebration of the life of Margaret Kyrle OBE, held at The Point in Eastleigh on Monday 26th September 2011.
Mrs Kyrle was Leader of Eastleigh Borough Council for four years from 1986, was Mayor of the Borough twice, and Mayoress in 1993-94. In March 2003, she was awarded the Honorary Freedom of the Borough of Eastleigh in recognition of her service to the community.
A number of tributes were paid to Eastleigh's first ever Liberal councillor, and those who spoke included Cllr Louise Bloom, Cllr John Caldwell and the current Mayor of Eastleigh, Terry Holden-Brown.
Steve Brine said: "This was a fitting tribute for someone who gave so many years public service to our area. Clearly we come from different political traditions but I take my hat off to anyone who puts so much into the community."
