Steve Brine accused the European Union of treating Great Britain like 'a kind of branch office' in the House of Commons on Monday 27th October.
The Winchester & Chandler's Ford MP was speaking in response to a statement from David Cameron following the Prime Minister's return from Friday's EU Council meeting. He said thousands of his constituents were appalled at the EU's sudden demand for nearly 2 billion Euros as a result of the UK's fast-growing economy and thanked the PM for his robust response at the summit.
In a packed Commons debate, Mr Brine also asked; "Does the Prime Minister understand - I know it is difficult – that many of my constituents see this as a further reason why, with a heavy heart, this club is just not working for us anymore."
The Prime Minister responded by saying he didn't believe Britain can't win in Europe but urgent change was needed and it is worth 'one more try' to renegotiate Britain's relationship with the EU. He added that, if he is Prime Minister after the coming General Election, voters across Winchester & Chandler's will get the chance to vote on that renegotiated position with an in/out referendum in 2017 on Britain's EU membership.
