Steve Brine spoke in the House of Commons this morning, as the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for COVID-19 Vaccine Deployment gave an update on the Government’s covid-19 response.
During the statement the Minister confirmed that 18-30 year-olds have been taking up the vaccine at a lower number than other age groups. Mr Brine highlighted this and criticized the Government saying; “Put ourselves in their shoes, they see all of us get a jab and they wonder what they get in return.”
Minister Zahawi highlighted more freedom in international travel a direct benefit of vaccines for young people.
The MP went on to ask the Minister; “Do we believe in our vaccine or not and what is the scientific evidence to explain the difference between July 19th and August 16th, when it comes to isolation for the double jabbed?”
Mr Zahawi responded saying; “I hope I've made clear to the House, that giving ourselves that additional few weeks where self-isolation is probably the second most effective tool after vaccines, makes a huge difference as we transition this virus.
It is not easy, but I certainly think we're doing the right thing, to be able to give us the space and the time to transition this virus from pandemic to endemic status.”
