Winchester & Chandler's Ford - as well as the rest of Hampshire - will exit the current set of national restrictions into Tier 2 from Wednesday next week.
Local MP Steve Brine MP says; “I was not in favour of a second national lockdown but given our area entered lockdown 2.0 in Tier 1 and comes out the other side in Tier 2, the obvious question is what has it achieved other than delivering another body-blow to the local businesses and the people they employ?"
"I am pleased at least we’re moving back to a tiered, fairer, approach but I suspect for many December 2nd will look and feel a lot like December 1st.
“There is clearly a mixed picture across Hampshire but the Government’s assertion we have falling infection rates and stable NHS admissions mean we should anticipate keenly the first review point in mid-December. Between now and then we need to know exactly the criteria against which we’ll be judged and to drive up the numbers who actually do isolate upon receiving a positive test.
“Ahead of any vote next week, I am clear the burden remains on the Government to demonstrate the necessity and proportionality of each restriction in each area and to show how they will save more lives than they cost. Ministers need to publish all the data so we make an informed judgement."
