New regulations on labelling pre-packed & loose foods came into force in December 2014, which should help people with food allergies and intolerances make informed choices about what they buy in shops and restaurants.
The Food Information for Consumers Regulation (EU FIC) will change the way allergen information appears on labels and on food that is pre-packed, sold loose or served when you are eating out.
It will also bring general and nutrition labelling together into a single regulation to simplify and consolidate existing labelling legislation.
Steve Brine said: "This is great news for families, who have often been confused and anxious about food ingredients. However, I'd urge consumers to continue to be vigilant during the transition period while suppliers get to grips with new law."
