Local MP Steve Brine has paid tribute to a coalition of local people and organisations after Weeke Pond, on Stockbridge Road, was restored with clean water from Sparsholt College.
The state of the pond had been subject to a long-running campaign led by Maurice Charrett, and the work was carried out on Thursday 19th January with support and contributions from Hampshire County Council, Southern Water, the Environment Agency, MTS and Selwoods.
Steve commented: "I really applaud everyone concerned here. I know this has been a long-running campaign, and there is a weekly rota of dedicated volunteers who keep the pond looking its best. I've heard that this has been called the Big Society in action, and I would really like to pay tribute to Maurice Charrett, whose commitment to not only this cause but the whole city is highly respected."
