Steve Brine addressed the Future of Diabetes conference in London on Tuesday 14th November, as Diabetes UK has undertaken one of the largest engagement studies they have ever done.
The scale of the diabetes challenge means that new ways to support people living with the condition need to be found, and the organisation has spoken to over 9000 people living with diabetes.
Their report identifies six key themes ranging from getting the right support from health and care services, support with the emotional aspects of diabetes, access to information, treatment and technology and support at work or school.
It also lays out people's hopes for the future including greater investment in research and action to prevent Type 2 diabetes.
Mr Brine highlighted the importance of making healthier choices easier, and told the conference that NHS England will be investing £42 million in proposals from individual CCGs, CCG collaborations and Sustainability and Transformation Partnerships (STPs) to improve the treatment and care of people with diabetes.
He also added that focusing on prevention, management and care and patient education now can improve diabetes care and outcomes for all in the future.
