Winchester MP Steve Brine has congratulated local mum Laura Skilton who was nominated for a national award in recognition of her hard work and dedication in supporting new and expectant parents at the NCT Stars Awards 2015.
Laura was invited to attend a special celebration at the House of Lords after winning the Volunteer of the Year for the South Central region. The event was hosted by Baroness Julia Cumberlege, along with Pat Glass MP and NCT's Chief Executive Nick Wilkie.
Laura's hard work has contributed to Winchester NCT's success in the area. As Branch Coordinator her fantastic team of volunteers has got many groups off the ground including a Sling Library, Nappy Library and a much-needed Bumps & Babies in Andover whilst keeping and reviving existing groups such as Bumps and Babies and the very well attended breastfeeding drop in service in Winchester. She throws herself into every NCT activity and fully supports everyone else involved in the team.
Steve Brine MP said: "The NCT Stars Awards are such a good idea. Volunteers such as Laura do so much work, without fanfare or request for praise, so it's nice to have the opportunity once in a while to say thank you.
"We are very fortunate to have in Winchester an NCT branch which is thriving and can, as a result, play such a strong role supporting families when they need it most.
Nick Wilkie, Chief Executive, NCT said: "The NCT Stars Awards is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of dedicated volunteers who are the backbone of NCT and who make a huge difference to the charity's work supporting parents through the First 1000 Days. We're delighted to recognise our volunteers' amazing work in this way."
