Steve Brine joined staff, children, parents and volunteers at Naomi House on Monday 29th April as the Duchess of Cambridge visited the Sutton Scotney children's hospice.
The Winchester & Chandler's Ford MP has worked closely with the team over the past few years, instigating a petition to the previous government when the hospice was under threat from the troubled Icelandic banks, and supporting them as the local MP in a recent meeting with the Prime Minister, Salisbury MP John Glen and Chairman Khalid Aziz.
On Monday, the Duchess of Cambridge, who was celebrating her second wedding anniversary, visited Naomi House to learn more about the hospice. It is a subject close to her heart, as she is already a patron of East Anglia Children's Hospice.
During the visit, she received a gift of cotton, traditionally used to celebrate a second wedding anniversary, and also heard a moving song from 18 year old Ollie Wade, of Winchester, performed in memory of his brother, Ben, who was a frequent visitor to Naomi House before he passed away in 2011.
Speaking afterwards, Steve said: "It was a huge honour to be present at this special day and meet the Duchess of Cambridge who was so composed, relaxed and lovely. It's always a pleasure and an ordeal to visit Naomi House and today was no different.
"Ollie Ward's performance was so impressive and moving; he is a really impressive young man. We were so fortunate to have Kate here today; her visit lifted everyone."
