Steve Brine met with Hampshire County Council's Superfast Broadband team on Friday 18th December as he received an update on the roll-out of superfast broadband in his Winchester constituency.
The Winchester & Chandler's Ford MP heard more about how the roll-out of wave two of the programme, which begins next month, and discussed in detail certain rural areas as raised with him by constituents. That included Ovington, Crawley, Chilcomb, parts of the Itchen Valley and Sutton Scotney.
Speaking afterwards, Steve said: "This was a useful update for me, particularly with recent talks I have had with colleagues in government over how the Universal Service Obligation will work.
"The level of detail we went into, including right down to certain Cabinets and individual properties, was amazing. I am as committed as ever to working with both HCC and local communities as we work towards securing the service for the last 10 per cent of rural communities that are currently excluded."
The MP also discussed city centre connectivity issues in Winchester and heard how a new cabinet is being installed this month, near the Royal Oak pub, which should help greatly. Mr Brine also wanted to discuss the business estate at Winnall and some of the long-standing issues there among businesses.
