Steve Brine highlighted the 50% increase in post-death organ donation over the past five years in the House of Commons on Tuesday 16th April.
The Winchester & Chandler's Ford MP was speaking in Health Questions, and as well as taking the opportunity to credit the network of specialist nurses who support bereaved families in hospital for the increase, he was keen to find out the lessons the Government had taken.
Jeremy Hunt MP, Secretary of State for Health, said that this was an example of huge success, and paid tribute to both the previous Government as well as the current Government in ensuring the work continued to be tackled.
However, he explained that the work must go on as despite the success, we must not think we have solved the problem. He said: "There is much work to do and I personally think that it is something that everyone should think about doing.
"It can be a source of personal pride to put oneself on the organ donation list and we should all encourage our constituents to think about it as well."
Steve Brine had earlier spoken about the inquiry into older people and breast cancer, which started on Tuesday, and Anna Soubry offered her support for the work of the All Party Group for Breast Cancer, commending the group for their work on targeting women over 70.
