Steve Brine attended a special event held in the House of Commons on Wednesday 17th June as MPs were lobbied about proposed plans to temporarily lift a ban on bee-harming pesticides.
The Winchester & Chandler's Ford MP was among a number of colleagues who took part in the event, and has been a long-standing supporter of our bees.
Campaigners briefed MPs at the event as government ministers look at requests to let dangerous pesticides - known as neonicotinoids - back into UK soil this autumn, and told of clear evidence of how much damage they do to our bees.
Recent figures show that bees contribute £651 million to the UK economy each year - up 51% since 2007. In addition, 85% of the UK's apple crops and 45% of our strawberry crop relies on bees to grow.
Friends of the Earth Bees Campaigner Dave Timms said: "Bees are crucial for our food and farming. The scientific evidence is growing all the time about the need to protect our much loved bees from these dangerous pesticides. It's vital the Government keeps them out of our fields and gardens for good."
Steve Brine said: "I was very pleased to come along to the event and speak to campaigners on the issue, and to have had so much feedback from my constituents over the past few days. I have decided to personally write to Liz Truss on the matter, and I will be following developments carefully."
