Steve Brine joined more than 100 well wishers as they showed their support for older people by taking part in Out & About for Brendoncare, the care charity's sponsored four mile walk in Winchester on Sunday July 17th.
The event raised over £12,000 and saw a range of participants including three year-old William Digance, and 86 year-old Eileen Porter, a member of a Brendoncare Club, who said: "I wanted to support the charity which helps me and my friends get out of the house regularly. I felt this was something I could do, so I was pleased to do so."
The event was started by the Mayor of Winchester, Cllr Barry Lipscomb, who rang a large bell. Cllr Lipscomb said: "It is really important for the Winchester community to get behind this respected local charity and show that they care for older people. I would also like to thank the event's sponsors, Dutton Gregory, The Breeze and White Communications Group for their generous support."
Brendoncare's Chief Executive Ron Staker added: "We were so pleased with the turnout on the day, with staff, volunteers, club members, local businesses and families all getting involved. We now plan to repeat the event next year on an even bigger scale."
Steve Brine added: "I really enjoyed seeing so many members of the community out and about, as it were, supporting Brendoncare today. I know that the charity were very pleased with today's event, and it was great to have the mayor here doing the honours with the opening."
