On Sunday July 21st, participants will cycle, run and kayak through the highways and waterways of Hampshire, in Winchester's Pedal, Paddle, Pace (PPP) triathlon.
Local MP Steve Brine joined with local organisers and Katie Blake from Macmillan Cancer Support to launch the event in the village of Easton on Friday. Steve said: "This is such a fun event but, as importantly, it helps Macmillan do even more for local people fighting cancer. We really want 2013 to be the most successful year to-date."
The Winchester PPP has grown over the last eight years to be one of the most popular events in Winchesters' sporting calendar, with this year promising to be the biggest and best yet. Entrants cycle 20km through some of Hampshire's most beautiful scenery, before running 5km along the recently opened Hockley viaduct and through the historic Water Meadows. The event finishes with a short 2km kayak along the Itchen Navigation canal.
This event attracts competitors of all abilities, from seasoned triathletes to those that wish to 'make it round' the course and support a very deserving charity. Teams of three individuals, performing a stage each, are also able to take part ensuring that this event is truly inclusive of all who wish to get involved.
Winchester PPP has raised in excess of £50,000 over the last few years for Macmillan Cancer Support. Macmillan use these funds to provide help for people who are affected by cancer. The charity aims to help patients, carers, families and communities by guiding people through the system and supporting them every step of the way. Macmillan funds nurses and other specialist health care professionals and builds cancer care centres.
