Residents across Chandler's Ford - and parts of Hiltingbury - will be relieved to know a brand new Post Office will be opening this Spring at the Fryern Arcade.
Local people have been without services, including over the busy Christmas period, since the Fryern Hill Post Office in Oakmount Road closed in October.
The Post Office has confirmed this weekend that a lease has now been agreed for the former ‘Memory Art’ site between Fryern Stationers and the Hairdressers.
A mandatory period of public consultation will now be undertaken with a provisional opening date set for April 7th. It is understood the current Post Office in Bournemouth Road, which has been earmarked for closure under the current national plan, will not close until this branch is back in business.
Local councillor Godfrey Olson said he was “delighted for local people who have waited so patiently without easy, or any, access to Post Office services since last year.”
Prospective local MP, Steve Brine added; “Thank goodness for that; this is a positive Post Office story for once and I know it will be very much welcomed by residents and existing businesses in the Fryern Arcade.”
