Last week, young people on the NCS programme in Winchester were delighted that the MP for Winchester & Chandlers Ford, Steve Brine, made time in his busy schedule to listen to their Dragon's den style pitches for their social action projects.
The visit was hosted by Mountbatten School Services and provided an opportunity for the young people to demonstrate the hard work they have put in planning projects to benefit their local communities.
Steve said: "NCS is flagship policy I championed in opposition many years ago so it's great to see it actually happening and thriving in this area. Dragons Den is such a good concept and it was a pleasure to hear the fundraising ideas of these bright young people. The three legged fancy dress hop through Winchester is certainly something I will look out for."
The young people come from a huge range of backgrounds and experiences and have spent the last three weeks getting to know each other through a range of workshops and exciting activities such as surfing, coasteering and laser tag. The groups are now moving into the last part of their four week experience where they will be raising funds and putting in the time to support local charities and causes.
Danny Smith the NCS programme Manager at Mountbatten School explained: "We are so grateful to people like Steve Brine for giving up their time to show young people how important their contributions are to the local communities.
"NCS is a once in a lifetime opportunity for school leavers to experience new things, meet people from a range of backgrounds and make a real, positive difference to the lives of people in their local area. With the help of people like Mr Brine we are able to make a truly memorable experience for the young people."
