Steve Brine visited Winchester Cathedral on Thursday 12th November to see for himself some of the preparations being made by our Christmas City.
He met with Annabelle Boyes, Receiver General and Canon Treasurer at the cathedral, on the rooftop, and was able to view the work being carried out in readiness for the Christmas Market in Cathedral Close, alongside building work on the now iconic ice rink.
The pair also discussed, and toured the building site for, the ongoing 'Birth of a nation' project which seeks to put the world-famous Winchester Bible back on glorious public display.
Steve said: "We are now established as THE Christmas City, and for good reason. I am so proud of what our city does when it comes together as this special time of year, and creates some magical memories for people near and far, as well, of course, as being a huge boost to our local economy.
"I cannot wait, and my kids cannot wait, for the Christmas Market and ice rink to open to the public, and I am sure that is a sentiment shared by so many across Winchester and even further beyond.
"But it's not all about the here and now. The heritage we have in Winchester, as to be shown through the 'birth of a nation' exhibition is second to none. I was blown away by the work that is taking place inside our great Cathedral and can assure people they are in for a real treat when it's complete in a few years' time."
