Steve Brine jumped off a plane on a whistlestop Saturday, and headed straight to Wonston to open the church Summer fete.
On an absolute scorcher of a day, he took his son William and wife Susie for an afternoon packed with fun and local traditional village fair. This year, internationally acclaimed singer, and local resident, Lisa Faye, sang at the fete, and there were duck races, a miniature steam train, face-painting, bouncy castles, croquet and a penalty shoot-out.
Wonston Fete is a very local affair with all the money raised going split between two local churches. It switches venues between Sutton Manor in Sutton Scotney and the Old Rectory in Wonston each year. Holy Trinity Church needs to raise £30,000 per year to survive, and the fete is expected to take between £5000-£7000 of that.
Speaking afterwards, Steve said: "Wonston is a real Summer classic; wholly un-commercial and focused on raising much needed money for the local churches. The miniature steam train was a real hit with our little William and it was important to see the Keep Hampshire Green group there."
