Local MP Steve Brine has thanked constituents for their support of his Summer Tour this year which he hailed his most successful to date.
The Winchester & Chandler's Ford MP holds a series of events, which coincide with the Summer Parliamentary recess, each July and August and this year included a variety of street surgeries, door-knocking events and even a supermarket surgery.
Steve said; "I am really pleased with how this year's Summer Tour went, it was easily the most successful yet, and I am extremely grateful to the many local people from across the constituency that took part. I represent a very large area and it's good to connect with every community, Summer Tour is an important part of that.
"While many of the issues which came up were national, such as Europe, the economy and immigration which really featured this year, it's striking just how much what is happening in someone's immediate area is the most important thing for them. I discussed parking, development, broadband, local road safety campaigns I am involved with such as the A33 junction in Kings Worthy and even the reliability of the phone lines."
This year, Steve's Summer Tour included events in Kings Worthy, Teg Down, St Cross, South Wonston, Winnall, Harestock, Chandler's Ford, Badger Farm, Otterbourne and Alresford. Steve was joined at different events by local councillors and community figures, as well as, more often than not, his dog Popcorn.
Steve added; "The response this year has been incredible, people often took the time to stop and say how much they appreciated the initiative but, as ever, I picked up some important casework which I am now working on. Summer Tour is certainly busy and generates a lot of publicity but ultimately, it's about getting things done for constituents and that's why I love this job."
