The sun finally came out for the family fun day and fete at the Lanterns Children's Centre in Winchester on Sunday 24th June 2012 which raised an impressive £2800 for the NCT B.A.B.I.E.S (Babies And Breastfeeding Information Encouragement and Support) appeal.
In addition to a tombola and raffle which was generously supported by many city businesses, one lucky family won a £100 gift voucher from main event sponsor JoJo Maman Bébé. Tom Hepworth lent his voice to make sure everyone knew about the popular baby and family themed stalls and great fun toddler activities which helped to raise crucial funds for B.A.B.I.E.S.
B.A.B.I.E.S is a weekly drop in session with trained breastfeeding counsellors at the Lanterns Children's Centre and is open to any mum in the Winchester area, including Stockbridge, Alresford, and the surrounding villages.
Local MP Steve Brine is a strong B.A.B.I.E.S supporter and offered a special prize of a Tour of the Houses of Parliament. He attended the event with his family and said: "Susie and I have used the BaBIES service and remain forever in its debt. This was a different twist on previous years but worked really well. It's a cause I will always support in Winchester because its service is absolutely vital for local families."
NCT volunteer organiser Laura Skilton, a mother of one from Kingsworthy, said "B.A.B.I.E.S. is a vital and valued lifeline when breastfeeding doesn't go to plan and parents need urgent support. The support we have received today from local families and businesses means that this service can continue to be offered to every mum in the community"
"It was a great effort and great fun, I'd like to thank all the volunteer mums and dads, especially Joss King and her staff from the Lanterns Children's Centre who made the day such a success" added Laura.
