Winchester Young Carers are looking to boost their team for 2013 as we head towards the New Year.
Led by local man Ben Hogbin, they are an independent charity that provides support for Young Carers aged 8-17yrs in the Winchester District. Speaking to Steve Brine, Ben said: "We are looking for individuals who want to make a real difference. We have lots of volunteering opportunities from helping at our young carer clubs and activities programme to becoming a befriender, fundraiser or committee member."
One volunteer, Kim, said: "I joined the project 2011 because I had time to spare once my son had left for Uni. It was definitely a case of filling that 'empty nest' and now I feel like I've got lots of little chicks to enjoy! I enjoy being part of such a positive group of people, both staff, volunteers and young people."
Another volunteer, Steve, said: "I joined the project in 2007 and over the last 5 years I've had a wealth of experiences and made some life-long friends whilst contributing positively to the future of Winchester. Supporting exceptional young people to live a childhood they deserve is both rewarding and a lot of fun."
Team member Jan added: "I joined the project in 2009 because I had retired and had some time on my hands and wanted to do something helpful. I helped my mother look after my father after he had a stroke, so I feel I have some understanding of what the young carers are going through."
Steve Brine said: "Young Carers is a fantastic organisation, and Ben brings so much passion to his role. I am delighted to be able to support WYC in their membership drive, and I'm sure the team will continue to go from strength to strength in the New Year."
