On a jam-packed Saturday, Steve and his family also took in the very traditional Village Fair on the Old Alresford Village Green.
The fair is well-established, and as well as stalls, sideshows and a variety of events in the arena such as a dog show, tug of war and a duck race in the stream, there were also plants, local produce, cakes, bric a brac, toys and the very popular bottle stall on offer;
In addition, there was the Grand Draw, there was a Bouncy Castle, and displays from the Eastleigh Model Boat Club and the Alresford Fire and Rescue Service.
Steve said: "What fun was had at the Old Alresford Village Fair by the family and I. For various reasons we have always been elsewhere in previous years and missed this most English of occasions but that is a mistake I am unlikely to repeat. A more traditional, country fair I think it would be hard to find so congratulations to the organisers for more or less dodging the weather and for how non-commercial it remains.
"I have to say also, I thought the drive-past bride – complete with tractor – was a master-stoke and pleased my little Emily no end! As you can imagine, I have definitely seen first-hand these past three years that there are downsides for my kids to having a Dad in Parliament but attending Summer fetes like this is not one of them."
