Steve Brine attended Winchester Cathedral on Sunday 22nd January as the city celebrated its annual Unity Service.
The evening was hosted by David Williams, the Bishop of Basingstoke, with Nigel Hemming from Winchester Vineyard giving an update on the work of Churches Together Winchester. The service also heard from a guest speaker, Billy Kennedy, the leader of New Community Church in Southampton and The Pioneer Network of Churches. He is also a current President of Churches Together England.
There were special prayers, led by different 'champions', on a range of topics including human trafficking and slavery, climate justice, refugees and business in the city, while Steve Brine was asked to deliver the gospel reading from Luke 15: 11-32, the Parable of the Prodigal Son.
Steve Brine said: "This a very special service, a staple of the constituency year for me and Susie. There is so much that divides us but there is far more that unites us, and tonight was a brilliant example of Winchester coming together.
"I was honoured to be a part of it, and as I said, to read the parable which more than any other goes to the heart of the Christian message of grace."
