Steve Brine was in attendance as the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care gave an update on the Government’s roadmap to release.
The Health Secretary, Sajid Javid, confirmed that step four of the roadmap would go ahead on July 19th, as previously proposed. Mr Brine, along with many of his colleagues, welcomed the announcement and look forward to scrutinizing the plans in more detail as they are published.
Steve did, however, take the opportunity to quiz Mr Javid over the Government’s modelling of Covid-19 hospitalisation data, asking; “I was told, today, of a lady admitted this weekend to a hospital in my region, to give birth. She was, of course, tested on admission and was positive, so she's a covid positive person in hospital.
When does the Secretary of State think, given the advice that he just confirmed to the House he sought, he'll be able to advise us of the figures for those admitted with covid, versus those admitted for covid?”
The Secretary of State confirmed that “I have asked for this advice because it is important that we try to better analyse the primary diagnosis of anyone coming into hospital.
I can understand why in the early days of this pandemic, why that was not easily possible, but I do think now we're at the stage to provide better data and I hope I can get that done as quickly as possible.”
